47 Retractable Hard Top (RHT) The new Ferrari California is the fi rst ever Maranello convertible with a Retractable Hard Top (RHT). A design solution that combines sportiness, function and fun to which Ferrari has brought a typically original fl air. The lightweight top folds neatly away so that it doesn't impinge at all on the car's line. On the functional side, weight-saving, opening speed and sound-damping have all been enhanced. The innovative hard-top stowage system ensures too that it takes up a minimal amount of space so that the California's interior retains its versatility whether the top is up or down. Aerodynamics The Ferrari California's aerodynamic development meant that the Cx (dr ag coeffi cient) has been kept right down whilst delivering the downforce required for optimal vehicle dynamics. In the coupé confi guration, the California has a Cx value of 0.32. Reduced drag also cuts fuel consumption. Suspension The Ferrari California retains the traditional double wishbone suspension to the front, while a new multilink system has been specially developed for the rear. The multilink system improves longitudinal fl exibility of the suspension, keeping transverse rigidity values high. As a result, the car beautifully absorbs any asperities, and noise and vibration are effi ciently damped. The SCM Magnetorheological Suspension Control System, debuted on the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, is also available on request. F1-Trac The Ferrari California is equipped with the exclusive traction control system pr emiered on the 599 GTB Fiorano and then adapted for the 430 Scuderia. The F1-Trac is the fruit of Ferrari's long experience in F1 and has been further optimised to suit the characteristics of the new GT. It allows even less experienced drivers to get the most out of the car in terms of cornering, safety and stability. Manettino The manettino has now become one of the classic features of Ferr ari entire range as has its position on the steering wheel – a clear derivative of Ferrari's Formula 1 experience. The manettino integrates the gearbox, stability and traction control systems, and SCM suspension system (if present). The settings for the various driving conditions are: COMFORT: maximum safety in all conditions, particularly ideal for low grip situations (wet or slippery road surface). Best everyday driving setting. SPORT: maximum performance and stability in perfect grip situations. Recommended for sporty, high performance driving. CST: this setting gives the driver complete freedom and control of the car on track or closed circuit. No electronic intervention whatsoever apart from ABS. Braking system The Ferrari California's braking system is exceptionally effective and r eliable, even under the most extreme driving conditions. As is the case with all of the new generation Ferraris, the California is equipped with CCM (Carbon Ceramic Material) brake discs. CCM brakes improve vehicle performance as they offer more responsive and consistent braking over time under intensive use. They also cut the car's weight by around 15 kg, enhancing both dynamic handling and ride comfort. Styling The California's muscular, fl owing, sculpted lines are once again the product of Ferrari's long-term collaboration with Pininfarina. Particular attention was lavished on creating perfectly-proportioned volumes, resulting in a car that is harmonious and balanced, regardless of whether the roof is up or down. The California's styling was honed in close collaboration with Ferrari's own in-house Styling Centre, and great emphasis was placed on imbuing each individual detail with a strong sense of quality and bespoke craftsmanship. Habitability The designers of the Ferrari California started out with a highly specifi c and ambitious objective: to create a GT with no limitations to its use. A car as suited to sporty press-on driving as to long journeys and trips to town. A car versatile enough to use for both work and pleasure. The new 2+ concept makes a large amount of useable space available behind the front seats. Two seats and Isofi x attachments can be fi tted for two children on request. Alternatively, owners can order a rear bench providing enough stowage space for either two roller suitcases or two light golf bags. In both cases, there is a fold-down rear seat back, another fi rst in a Ferrari. This connects the cockpit with the roomy 340-litre boot (240-litre when the top is down).
